I remember touring this food truck when it first opened. The owners at Patrizi’s were extremely friendly and invited us into the truck to watch them cut the fresh pasta that would go into our meals. All these years later, and thanks to COVID-19, getting to peek in on the action in the kitchen is no longer (at least temporarily) a reality, but the quality of the food that comes out of it remains.

Patrizi’s is located in the garden of The Butterfly Bar, which is housed inside Vortex Theatre off Manor Road. If you’ve never been to Vortex, I highly recommend catching a show there (yes, they are currently running socially distanced shows at limited capacity). One could easily make an evening, or date night, from grabbing dinner at Patrizi’s, seeing a show at Vortex, and then hanging on the patio with drinks afterward.

On this trip, I ordered Patrizi’s Red Sauce and added a meatball on top, as well as the Carbonara Alexandra. Both dishes were excellent, traditional, and are made with quality ingredients that shine through in every bite. Ordering for both the food truck and the bar is done through your phone via a QR code on each table in the garden, and service is speedy from both operations.

One thing to note: The Butterfly Bar, like most drinking establishments in Austin, is doing its best to operate safely during the pandemic, and for that reason, seating is limited. If you plan to eat onsite, do them a favor and order some cocktails as well! If you’re not planning to booze, take your food to-go and leave the tables for bar patrons.
