We have a new restaurant on West 6th Street in the former location of Hut’s Hamburgers and it’s quite the spot! Sammie’s Italian Restaurant honors the history, design, and character of these unique buildings and return them to the original 1939 established namesakes.

Sammie’s, a full-service Italian-American restaurant, celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by the old school, legendary Italian restaurants in New York, Los Angeles, and beyond. Open for dinner (with lunch to follow soon), the menu has riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, Linguine Vongole, and Cheese Ravioli with Bolgonese; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti. The wine program is Italian-focused and includes a house Chianti featuring a straw covered Fiasco bottle. Italian beers and an extensive classic and signature cocktail list (including Martini and Apetitivo sections) round it all out.

In her previous life, Kristy was an uninspired realtor who was feeling a little bit bored with her day to day. So on January 1, 2010, she made a New Year’s resolution to write about one thing to do each day in her beloved city of Austin, Texas. And thus, 365 Things Austin was born.
