Downtown Austin

Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that the shelter-in-place would start tomorrow, rather than be issued* tomorrow. No timeline has been set at this point.

Mayor Adler just announced that on Tuesday, March 24th, the City of Austin and Travis County will issue a shelter-in-place order in response to the Coronavirus.

What does this mean for you:

  • All none-essential businesses will close
  • Grocery stores, pharmacies, hospitals, media outlets, will remain open
  • Select restaurants will still offer curb-side pickup and deliveries
  • You can go outside to walk your dog or exercise as long as you practice social distancing (6 feet between you and others)

We know this is a bummer but the better we are at observing these rules the sooner we can get back to our normal way of life. Please do your part.
