Cover it up! Tis the season.
Here are a few of my favorite sunscreens out there and why this is important. (Especially in Texas!)
Reef Safety. The protect our eco-system of our reefs sunscreen should contain zinc or titanium rather than oxybenzone. This is what we refer to as a “physical sunscreen” vs “chemical sunscreen”.
The formula needs to be “broad spectrum” protecting from both UVA and UVB rays. Heres why….
UVA
- They’re more penetrating than UVB rays, which means they can affect cells deeper in the skin.
- They cause skin to age prematurely, leading to visible effects such as wrinkles.
UVB
- UVB rays damage the outermost layers of the skin.
- UVB rays cause most skin cancers but they can also contribute to skin aging prematurely.
FYI – Even incidental sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation and other damage to your skin. So if you’re leaving the house at all, protection is imperative.
