One of Austin’s most famous skincare gurus, Carrie Sexton, has seen her business model change drastically in the last two months. As the owner of Vetiver Skin Studio in Clarksville, these days she is offering virtual consultations over FaceTime and shipping products all over the world (with free local delivery in Austin!) “I have said this a thousand times, and I’ll say it again,” Sexton says. “I cannot wait to open the doors of the studio and take care of my clients again.”

We asked the esthetician of 12 years, to share DIY recipes, tricks, and tips for our readers to use for self care at home. Check out this easy-to-make treatment that will make your skin look like you didn’t watch all three seasons of Ozarks in three days, but were instead lying on a beach somewhere.

Lately, in quarantine, I feel like my skin has been a little dull and lifeless. Stress and lifestyle changes during this time are likely the culprits. There is a simple concoction using ingredients you can grab next time you get groceries. This is an excellent mild exfoliator, brightener, and hydrating combo that will give you a vibrant glow at home.

1/4 papaya cut in half, seeds removed ( fruit acids remove dead layers of the skin)

1/2 teaspoon turmeric (brightening, anti-inflammatory, and soothing for dry skin)

1 teaspoon Manuka honey (decreases inflammation and helps the skin retain moisture)

*I like to blend the papaya first creating a paste and then mix the honey and turmeric in after.

Massage the mixture onto your face and neck (never forget the neck!). Leave it on for 15 minutes. Then, simply towel it off and your skin will be noticeably brighter and more vibrant looking!
